If they catch wind of a gold seller, they can look at all of his transactions and reverse them if they suspect anything. So imagine, paying $30.00 for 100 Gold, you receive your gold in the mail, then suddenly the GM subtracts 100 Gold from your character when they catch the transaction from a known Gold seller. Good luck getting your $30 back. You invest enough money into the game already with monthly subscription fees and for the expansion module, not to mention the time investment.
