With the value of the £ going down, does it make more Sense to buy with the weak £ as gold is valued in $s ? Also can you buy it over the counter ?

In USA, we can usually buy gold bullion coins at a coin dealer for small premiums to spot price. But right now, premiums run as high as 25%. Its silly, and probably marks a top.
My personal opinion is that it makes sense to buy gold for long term hold, but short term is very hard to predict and probably headed down.
