Empire Gold is definitely the best gold buyer in the USA. They pay top dollars for your gold and Jewelries and you can inquire the value of your gold for Free!
I always have had a positive experience with them. Eriu E

Empire Gold, Cash 4 Gold and the other so called gold buyers STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Cash 4 gold especially for they are under legal investigations in Florida their home base. Only certified gold dealers you need ot talk to and also advoid like the plague PAWN SHOPS! Bill J

By far the best company out there is the Silver and Gold Exchange.
I had a whole bunch of gold to sell and so I did a bunch of homework to research companies online. I wanted to be sure they had a good BBB record, were reputable and fair well. After days of digging, these guys stood out way above the rest!
And so, I did it. I sent it in and they were awesome! They paid me way more than the offers I got from the local guys and they were really fast.
I’ve recommended them to my friends too and they were really happy with this business.
In an industry that is so unscrupulous, I’m only too happy to recommend these guys and help other consumers protect their gold and silver. SimoneA

Hi - If you know what your gold is worth, your best bet would probably be a refinery, such as Midwest. I’ve heard the Gold & Silver Exchange is also good. There are so many buyers out there, you must do your homework before transacting with them. For instance, will the company give you an estimate on your gold or simply send you a check assuming you’ll accept what they’re offering? The important thing is that you know the value of your gold BEFORE selling it, so that you’ll walk into a transaction with your eyes wide open. If you’d like more in-depth information, I’ve recently launched a new website educating people about selling their gold and how to receive a fair price for it. It covers topics such as testing, weighing, and pricing gold, where to sell it, when to sell it and what NOT to sell. It also covers gold coins, gold teeth, scrap silver, platinum, diamonds and gemstones. Also gold market reports. . I notice from reading a lot blogs and forums that people don’t know how to go about selling their gold, and that’s why I created it! ?

If you own gold and it is marked by the conttent,(usually K for Karat-24K is 100%, 18K is 75% 14K is circa 58-60% 12K is 50% and you can figure the rest with a calculator as long as you know 24K =100%.
If it is marked, get your gold acid tested or buy your own kit to test for Karat percentage using acids, a fine scraper and a scale(a HS chemistry student can help you) , once you know you have real gold, KEEP IT! Gold will be worth money whether it is in jewelry or in bullion. It will never rust. If yoou sell old jewelry, you may be selling precious antique designs which are worth more because of who made them than merely because they are gold.
If you have gold and it is real and marked, keep it!!!!
If it goes up, fine, if gold goes down, you can still wear it as jewelry. Not many people wear bullion as it is to heavy and valuable and often in weird shapes. It is ugly.
Keep your gold jewelry because it will not cease being either jewelry or gold!
